The Ford C6 adapter to the Bronco Dana 20 is 8.00 in length. The adapter material is 356 T-6 heat treated aluminum alloy, and the adapter has a provision to retain the original early Bronco mount. The adapter kit includes an adapter housing, spud shaft, crossmember sleeve, alignment retainer, snap ring, gaskets, o-ring, fastening hardware and adapter instructions.
A 1" body lift is recommended for tunnel clearance.
Transfer Case
The adapter assembly will fit any 1966-77 Bronco Dana 20 transfer case. This adapter will only work with the T style shifter. Transfer cases with a J style linkage will require modifications to retain this linkage. This cast iron, gear driven case has a low range of 2.46:1 and a front output shaft on the drivers side.
Transmission
This adapter assembly is designed for exclusive use with the Ford C6 automatic transmission 4wd. The 4wd output shaft must stickout 7 beyond the transmission case. The C6 is a 3 speed, heavy duty automatic with a case length of 20, a non-removable bell housing and a oil pan that is held on with 17 bolts.
On vehicles 1966 through 1968 that have been equipped with the constant velocity "U" joints, you will need to change the front drive shaft to a 1969 or newer type. Due to the large diameter of the constant velocity yoke and the pan clearance of the automatic transmission, this is why the change is required. You may need to change to a smaller diameter driveshaft. The C6 oil pan should be the deeper type such as that found on the F150 4WD.
If you are installing a high horsepower V8 and want to use an automatic, this transmission is your best choice. The C6 tranny and adapter housing will be 2-1/2 longer than your factory setup. Driveline & crossmember modifications are necessary. The stock transfer case linkage will need minor modifications to fit on this adapter housing. This kit uses a stock 4WD C6 tailshaft with 31 splines. This kit also includes a new 8 adapter housing, spud shaft, and necessary bearings and seals.
