Transmission
The kit is designed for exclusive use with the Ford C4 automatic transmission. The Ford C4 is a 3 speed transmission was used between 1963-'82. The transmission bellhousing is removable, the overall length measures 17.00".
We recommend obtaining a 1970 & newer transmission for conversions.
The transmission case length is 11.180" and with the bell housing measures 17.00". This transmission was used on small block Ford engines. The adapters manufactured will normally require the installation of new output shaft.
The 1st gear ratio is 2.46:1; 2nd 1.46:1; an a 1.1 3rd gear ratio on a C4 Automatic.

This will adapt any ford C-4 automatic transmission.
The spud shaft bearing from your manual intermediate housing must be used. A spud shaft from an automatic must be used with this swap kit or you can cut 3/8" from the female side of your existing manual spud shaft.
The Ford C4 adapter to the Bronco Dana 20 is 7.375 in length. The adapter material is 356 T-6 heat treated aluminum alloy, and the adapter has a provision to retain the original early Bronco mount. The adapter kit includes an adapter housing, new C4 output shaft, alignment retainer, snap ring, gaskets, seal, o-ring, vent, fastening hardware and adapter instructions.
Even though Ford used this transmission stock in vehicles from 1973-77, stock parts are no longer available. Advance Adapters manufactures a new aluminum adapter housing and a custom output shaft that is identical to the original Ford C4. This kit uses the stock Bronco spud shaft which may need to be shortened in some applications. No driveline modifications are required when replacing a manual 3 speed that was originally mated to a V8.
Transfer Case
The adapter assembly will fit any 1966-77 Bronco Dana 20 transfer case. This cast iron, gear driven case with the front output shaft on the driver's side. The Bronco Dana 20 changed slightly during their service. 1966-72 models had a 2.46:1 low range and featured a "T" style shifter. 1973-77 models had a 2.38:1 low range and featured a "J" style shifter.
"J" LINKAGE TRANSFER CASE LINKAGE WILL NEED TO ORDER THE ADDITIONAL SPACER OR MODIFY THE "J" LINKAGE. Advance Adapters sells this as part number 715515 and can be purchased from them directly.
We recommend using the largest external cooler available for maximum transmission life. The new Adapter will bolt directly to the stock cross member. This kit does not require changing the front or rear driveshafts.
