Original equipment clutches are designed for long service life under normal use in ordinary driving conditions. They are not designed to meet the constant punishment of four-wheeling, the demands of heavy towing and plowing or the durability requirements of commercial applications.
Higher performance can't be added on to a standard clutch. Some clutch suppliers paint ordinary clutches and call them high performance; others modify clutches to increase initial clamp load, but these modifications actually shorten clutch service life.
Increased clamp load through engineering
A new diaphragm spring clutch produces a specific clamp load that exceeds the requirements for the product's intended use. As the clutch wears during normal operation, clamp load increases, peaks in mid-life and decreases gradually as shown on the clutch graph.
Clutches modified to increase performance only move the initial operating point on the clutch curve. This increases initial clamp load, but shortens clutch service life.
These products are limited by the original product design and were never intended for high performance. LuK RepSet PRO GOLD SERIES clutches generate unique operating curves for increased clamp load.
The only way to increase clutch performance is to establish new standards for each vehicle application.
Don't let appearance modifications fool you. LuK RepSet PRO GOLD SERIES may not appear different than the standard LuK RepSet, but a close inspection of the component parts confirms the difference. Increased performance is achieved through the design of the component parts that are most critical to clutch performance and service life. These include the disc coil springs, hub-flange and clutch diaphragm spring.
Designed to take the heat, comfortably
LuK RepSet PRO GOLD SERIES discs are designed to handle the heat generated by heavy-duty use and engine modifications. Higher torque capacity is achieved by design of the disc coil springs and hub-flanges.
LuK RepSet PRO GOLD SERIES discs contain the highest quality, premium organic material with friction coefficients to handle the heat and provide smooth, comfortable engagement.
Competitive products offer off-the-shelf torque capacity at best. And when non-original equipment products are used, as is often the case, their torque capacity is less than our standard LuK RepSet. All LuK RepSet PRO GOLD SERIES discs have torque capacities designed for performance and comfort.
Cerametallic button discs have an excessively high coefficient of friction, increasing wear on the clutch and flywheel friction surfaces. Driveability is sacrificed due to the aggressiveness of cerametallic friction material that causes engagement to be very abrupt and harsh - undesirable qualities for a clutch.

To eliminate clutch chatter, You need to replace driveshaft center support bearing plate with Ford part #F4TZ-4831A. Extreme driveshaft angle between the trans and differential may cause chatter at take-off.

***NOTE FOR 1993-98:Replace clutch master and slave cylinder, these vehicles were prone to a defective hydraulic release system. To eliminate leaks that may cause this condition install upgraded master and slave cylinder. These components must be installed together. A new tube kit, Ford part #F5TZ-7A512-A and pedal pivot shaft lever, Ford part #E7T2-7A554-A, must be used with the upgraded parts. For additional info refer to Ford bulletin #95-4-9.
