Spicer Invented the First U-Joint in 1904, and They Still Make the Best. Ever since Clarence Spicer invented the first universal joint in 1904, the Spicer name has been synonymous with quality and performance. Today, Spicer ® u-joints incorporate the latest advancements in design, materials, and manufacturing processes to deliver a consistent, high-quality product that is engineered to meet the specific demands of the application.
Spicer® u-joints are the standard for premium performance in the driveshaft market. • OE engineering and field testing experience is why the Spicer brand is the most trusted in the industry. • Forged with high-quality steel, these u-joints are heat-treated and case-hardened with precision to very specific levels, ensuring optimal strength and durability. • The process of precision grinding the seal and bearing surfaces helps to improve the life of the seal and beariing.
When it Comes to U-joint Performance, Blue is the New Black.
How did Dana Spicer make Spicer® u-joints for Dana axles even tougher? They gave them the blues. Dana Corp. covered their u-joints with a high-performance, high-durability blue coating. Then they subjected them to the corrosive effects of 45 hours in a mud bath. Tests results prove that the beauty of the Spicer® Blue-Coated Performance U-joint is more than skin deep—its beauty stands up to the elements!
Spicer® Blue-Coated Performance U-joints (SPL®5-760x equivalent) underwent a multi-step painting process which included cleaning with a zinc phosphate solution and the application of a high-performance primer, followed by a top layer of our signature blue coating.
The Test
They subjected the Spicer® Blue-Coated Performance U-joint —and a competitor’s product — to durability testing, consisting of a 45-hour mud bath to simulate harsh road conditions.
The Results
The image to the right shows the clear, visible difference between the Spicer® Blue-Coated Performance U-joint and the competitor’s product after 45 hours of mud bath testing.
